Brick Top Question : Hi John,

Here's an example of the confusion which can arise in trying to ID these three mushrooms, Naematoloma sublateritium ( Cinnamon Cap Brick Top or Brick Cap ), capnoides ( Smoky Gill ) and fasciculare ( Sulfur Tuft )from macroscopic features. Paying attention to the type of substrata they grow on, and color (which can vary within species) are the best indicators... Naematoloma is now known as Hypholoma ...
Incidentally, I quoted you false information when you came over. The Sulfur Tuft does not only grow on Coniferous wood, but evidently also grows on deciduous wood and in grass according to Gary Lincoff in the Audubon Guide .

Elias' Mushroom Photo Gallery : My now 13 year old son, Elias, was very enthusiastic about taking mushroom photos last year, but was constantly frustrated using his mother's little point and shoot camera, so I gave him a Sony dsc-f707 for his birthday and he finds the results much more satisfying!

3-D Mushroom Images (Anaglyphs) : Here is my first effort in creating Anaglyphs and, of course, I had to choose a mushroom. To view the image properly, you will need a pair of those blue and red glasses. It's pretty fun doing this, so I think I'll be doing more in the future

Please note that the images of fungi in this website are not intended for identification purposes. I have identified the fungi portrayed to the best of my current ability, which may or may not be entirely accurate. If you intend to eat wild mushrooms you should obtain a 100% positive identification before doing so, which usually cannot be made solely from a photo.
